Put-in at the Settler's Road Bridge, just outside Kootenay National Park. Watch for many Class II and III rapids within the first 10-15km. (Best option is to get a small guide book which I understand is available in Radium).
This is a great trip to split into 2 days.
There are a number of primitive camps along the way, with a great one at Horseshoe Rapids (approx 3 hrs down river).
Highlights include a number of challenging but fun rapids including Bridge Rapids (immediately at put-in), Ledge Rapids, Boulder rapids, Horseshoe rapids, and Palliser Rapids. Also be sure to check out Pedley Falls (just after Palliser rapids).
Directions:
From Canal Flats, follow the Kootenay FSR to the Kootenay River Bridge and leave a vehicle there for pick-up.
Travel up the Kootenay-Settler's FSR (Raven's Head Road) to the Settler's Road Bridge (approx 36km up the road) and put in at the parking area on the East side of the river. (No Overnight - Private area)

QuestionHi there, Just trying to get some information on the river. I am an intermediate paddler however a few friends would like to come who are not. So I think we may just rent a raft, and just pull a couple of Kayaks with us. I am curious if this trip would be ok by raft without alot of paddling? we have 3 days to work with? As well we are going in Aug.
I know it is hard to give definitive answers, however, just looking for a start as I have not been down that river. Thanks
Jase
